Biography

Background:

I was born in Bylakuppee a Tibetan Settlement in Southern India. After completing my junior school at SOS TCV bylakuppe, I then moved to Dharamshala, where I finished high school at the upper TCV Dharamshala. Since I was 19 my family shifted to the US and I have been living there.

Family:

I was born to a simple family with two older brothers. I grew up just like everyone else in most Tibetan settlements. By the grace of god and my parents, I had the opportunity to go to school and that in itself opened the doors to many opportunities that life has to offer.

Music:

My interest in Tibetan music started right from school. Since my days in school, I have been actively participating in all musical and cultural festivals. Growing up, I’ve been a huge fan of Indian and Himalayan music. I started by singing mostly in school events and cultural presentations. At about the age of 11, my parents got me into learning Danyen (Tibetan lute) and bought me one a few years later. This was the biggest musical gift of my life.
Learning and playing danyen got me so much into Tibetan music that later, I started learning and playing most of the Tibetan music instruments. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity that I’ve received from my schools.

Music Albums:

I released my first Tibetan music album while studying in TCV Upper dharamshala, I was 17 years old then. During one winter vacation time, my brother and mother encouraged me to write some songs and do a music album that year. I didn’t know what to think of it at the time but decided to do that, this was my first real initiative into song writing and music composition. I was so thrilled and happy about my first album and satisfied with the work and the release. Coming with an album on my own further encouraged me to write Tibetan songs.
